Senior members of our team have experience in Energy Performance Contracting, Utility Demand Side Energy Management programs, energy efficiency retrofit, lighting system efficiency, Commissioning, in both new construction and existing buildings, IPMVP Measurement & Verification, ENERGY STAR® Benchmarking, BAS and DDC Control and Automation systems design, Maintenance tasking, Ongoing Commissioning, ASHRAE Level 1, 2, & 3 Auditing and LEED Certification and Facilitation.

Stephany Cull, BEP, CBCxP, CSDP – Principal

Ms. Cull has designed and specified Building Automation and Control Systems for two major controls companies and has been an active participant in the Controls, Energy Saving Performance Contracting, and outsourced Facility Operations & Maintenance industries for almost 25 years.  Stephany is the founder of RetroCom Energy Strategies and the original developer of the company’s Supported RetrocommissioningSM offering - a post project enabling process designed to reinforce Continuous Commissioning skills and manage project energy saving outcomes. In addition to taking an active role in RetroCom’s project work, Stephany is a regular speaker on the topic of Retrocommissioning and Ongoing Commissioning at industry events and association gatherings across the United States.  She is responsible for writing the Retrocommissioning section in the Encyclopedia of Energy Engineering and Technology and she holds designations as a Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCxP), a Business Energy Professional (BEP) and as a Certified Sustainable Development Professional (CSDP) from the Association of Energy Engineers. 

Len Beyea, CBCxP, HBDP, CEM, LEED AP - Principal

During his 33-year career in applied energy efficiency and sustainability, Len Beyea has worked for and with a variety of institutional and commercial sector organizations. This includes a research contract with the California Energy Commission, a 3-year placement as the Energy Coordinator for the County of San Mateo, as a Systems Engineer for a controls contractor, as a Project Manager for Cogenex and for Citizens Conservation Services, and as Senior Energy Engineer for energy services leader Noresco.  Len was also responsible for leading Proven Alternative’s project team for the 1992 Demand Side Management Pilot Program conducted on behalf of Pacific Gas & Electric.  Len has direct experience working in Educational, Multi-Family Housing, Healthcare, Governmental, Military, Industrial and Commercial facilities.  His work with the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation involving six hospitals earned the 2003 Energy User News Project of the year award.  Len has a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Planning from UC Santa Cruz, and over 280 hours of continuing education in engineering, architecture, commissioning, and project management.  He holds LEED Accreditation from the U.S. Green Buildings Council as well as designations from the Association of Energy Engineers as a Certified Building Commissioning Professional, Certified Energy Manager and as a Certified Cogeneration Professional.  Len is also certified as a High-performance Building Design Professional by ASHRAE.  He has given presentations at several trade and professional conferences and is a frequent guest lecturer on energy and sustainability issues at Cabrillo Community College, UCSC, CSU San Jose, and the Monterey Institute for International Studies.

Michael McNulty, LEED AP – Project Operations Manager

Mr. McNulty is a LEED Accredited Professional with nearly two decades of experience in all phases of project and construction management. He has a Masters degree from Columbia University and has completed over 300 hours of continuing education in green building design, HVAC systems and lighting efficiency, including ongoing coursework in Commissioning, Retrocommissioning and Ongoing Commissioning from University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Engineering, UC Berkeley and Cabrillo College. Mike is responsible for project operations planning and management and in this role he oversees the day to day scheduling and timely delivery of RetroCom’s services. He has direct, hands-on experience in all phases of the Commissioning, Retrocommissioning and Ongoing Commissioning process from Planning to Investigation, Implementation and Hand-off.  As a LEED Accredited Professional, Mr. McNulty has successfully led and completed numerous LEED EB, LEED NC and LEED CI projects achieving certifications for our clients from LEED Silver through to LEED Platinum.

Ron Brown, PE, CEM – Mechanical Engineer

Mr. Brown holds a BSE in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He is a registered Professional Engineer in California, Michigan and Indiana and he is also a Certified Energy Manager. Ron has long career history in the engineering field including original design for HVAC and Central Plant systems, Plumbing Systems and Fire Protection Systems.  His career experience also includes the development of economic analysis models for energy efficiency measures, life cycle costing evaluation, and the development of retrofit solutions for mechanical equipment and HVAC control systems. Ron will typically provide design oversight for system alterations and will supplement the RCx Project Leader on site by conducting functional testing, designing monitoring and trending plans and providing peer review for all aspects of the project.

Ron has significant experience in performing energy and efficiency analysis on existing mechanical systems and control systems, commissioning newly installed systems and developing preventive maintenance programs for new and altered systems.

Judy Wong – Supervisor, Energy Analysis

Ms. Wong has almost 15 years of hands-on experience in the energy services industry with assignments as an architectural energy consultant and as the Manager of Measurement & Verification Services for one of the largest energy saving performance contracting firms in the United States. Ms. Wong is completely familiar with all phases of Retrocommissioning & energy auditing work. She supervises RetroCom’s data collection activities, providing guidance to a team of specialists charged with analyzing and interpreting trend and logger data that is regularly collected during a Retrocommissioning or energy audit project. Her extensive experience with evaluation of energy efficiency applications, Measurement & Verification principles, HVAC system design, control system operations, combined  with her environmental design background make Judy an invaluable member of RetroCom’s team. Ms. Wong provides data analysis and site support to almost every Retrocommissioning assignment that RetroCom executes.

Robert L. Dunn, CEM – Commissioning Engineer

Bob Dunn is an experienced energy manager and controls technician.  Before joining RetroCom, Bob held positions at the University of California, Santa Cruz spanning over 25 years that included Energy Systems Engineer, Inspector/Planner/Estimator, HVAC Specialist and Senior Building Mechanic.  Bob has a wealth of experience and background in the day-to-day operation of Mechanical, Electrical and Control systems along with skills in troubleshooting, device calibration and maintenance training.  He has worked extensively with Pneumatic, Electric and Electronic controls and has extensive experience in the design and programming of complex building automation systems.  Bob has a Bachelors Degree in Computer Mathematics & Industrial Arts from San Jose State University and he is a Certified Energy Manager.

Michael Flemming (EIT) – Mechanical Engineer

Mike holds a BSE from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Mike acts as an engineering assistant/Junior Engineer for many of RetroCom’s projects providing support for energy auditing, design coordination, functional testing, and savings analysis on commissioning and LEED projects, for new and existing buildings.  His previous experience includes work as an engineering assistant in a mechanical design firm and with operations engineering for tar sands development in northern Alberta, Canada.

Ed Marlow, PE (Civil) – Associate Engineer & Project Manager

Ed has more than 34 years of experience in environmental and energy engineering providing leadership in infrastructure programs, with an emphasis on water and wastewater systems, including programs for water and energy conservation. Some of his previous experiences include the privatization study of Biogas Recovery for the City of Richmond Wastewater Treatment Plant, comparative evaluation of Fuel Cell and Solar PV technologies for the Garvey School District & Twin Rivers School District along with project management for Waste to Energy projects in Fresno & San Benito counties in California. Ed holds an Engineering Degree from the University of Utah, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Behavioral Science from Westminister College and he is a registered Professional Engineer in both California & Nevada. He is also a licensed Teacher in Utah and Germany.
